Why problem solving-based root cause analysis is not enough for 2nd Order change.

In this short excerpt from a conversation between Marvin Oka and Dr. Gary Salba of Strategic Journeys, they explore the difference between systems thinking and the conventional problem-solving method of root-cause analysis. 2nd Order change requires seeing the whole-system and the interconnectivity between its parts, not just looking for a linear 'upstream' cause.

An upcoming series of masterclasses in 'Systems Thinking for 2nd Order Change Agents' will be starting this month. Be on the lookout in your inbox for your special BMR Insights subscriber special notification.

Why people are the key to 2nd Order transformational change.

In this excerpt from a conversation between Marvin Oka and seasoned professional change agent, Kimble Vowless from Beoutstanding Ltd. (NZ), they discuss how most organisational change efforts end up as 1st Order activities. They also discuss how and why the human aspects of transformational change need to be the foundation for the design and facilitation of any 2nd order change work.

Kimble Vowless is the past 'Head of Learning' for ASB Bank in New Zealand and is now the Director and principal consultant of Beoutstanding Ltd., a strategic consulting firm specialising in leadership development to make workplaces more human and authentic so people can bring their whole selves to work and perform at their best.

'Applications of Gravesian Theory for 2nd Order Change Agents' - a post program review.

(Part 2)

This is the second of a two-part conversation with Maree Burgess and Joanne Hansen, the instigators of the recently completed pilot program, 'Applications of Gravesian Theory for 2nd Order Change Agents'. This second part focuses on the Generative Inner Work aspects of the program for evolving 2nd Order leadership consciousness.

Maree is a Certified Neuro-Behavioural Modeller and along with her colleague, Joanne, asked for help in learning how to apply Gravesian Theory (aka Spiral Dynamics) in a practical way for 2nd Order change work. Since we at BMR are keen to support our graduates,  Marvin Oka and Graeme Brooks developed an intensive 10-week pilot program which has recently completed.
